How does Microsoft achieve such a high level of motivation? Microsoft explicitly focuses on morale. The million dollar question at the heart of this profound study is what every organization with a heartbeat wants to know: What can we do to improve employee experience? Well, not surprisingly, it all starts with leaders and managers setting the stage. They need to provide clear direction and support that will drive human workplace practices that create the employee experience.
Employees increasingly expect to trust their organizations to be responsible and act with integrity. When those expectations are met, 83 percent of respondents describe a positive employee experience, 46 percentage points higher than when those expectations are unmet.
The study found that "supportive co-worker relationships are also an important driver of a positive work experience. When those relationships are present in the workplace, employees report a much more positive employee experience than when that support is absent 77 percent compared to 35 percent.
This means ensuring that employees' skills and talents are being fully utilized and there is greater alignment to shared, core values. When employees agree their work is consistent with the organization's core values, 80 percent report a more positive employee experience compared to 29 percent who do not agree. A healthy economy is a good problem to have, but it also presents some hiring challenges.
Obviously, option three is the most popular one. Because while you were out hunting down that great hire, they were out there doing the same thing to your organization. Top Workplaces already do. Only 36 percent have recently considered a new opportunity. And what about the highest-ranking Top Workplaces?

As senior leaders come to understand the indisputable fact that engaged employees deliver superior business results, they jump to the wrong conclusion: If they can make employees engaged, better results will follow. They embrace transactional approaches to engagement, such as rewards, free food, bring-your-dog-to-work day, office parties — you name it.
Sure, these are welcomed by your staff. But they only serve to build entitlement, not engagement. Focus on workplace culture. Strive to create the kind of environment that attracts, retains, and develops the talent needed to ensure success. This is the type of workplace employees become engaged with.
